Coggeshall Open Gardens – Virtually Open

With the COVID-19 pandemic, many events have obviously had to be cancelled and Coggeshall’s much-loved Open Gardens event as it usually runs is one of these. However, this does not mean there will be no Coggeshall Open Gardens at all.

The organisers are instead asking everyone in Coggeshall to take a photograph of their own garden and send it in to [email protected]. It will then be posted on the Coggeshall Open Gardens website. This will allow everyone to ‘walk’ around Coggeshall’s Open Gardens without having to worry about leaving your own home!

The rules set are simple:

• The garden or allotment must be in Coggeshall;
• The photo should be taken between 00:01am and 11:59 pm on 7 June;
• Photos should be sent by close of 14 June.

One point the organisers would like to make clear is that you do not need the best photo, a huge garden or even a garden at all. They want photos that “capture something of the day”. This can be a garden, allotment or even a window box.

Take a look at their gallery for ideas and inspiration. Also, they have a useful ‘help with photos’ page. A couple of additional points to consider are to make sure you don’t include anything identifiable if you don’t want people to see your house. Also, be careful not to take photos of anything regarding security around your house!

Every year the money raised by Open Gardens goes to the parish church of St Peter ad Vincula to fund various clubs and activities for the whole community. Clearly this year will be different as there are sadly no ice creams or delicious afternoon teas available. Yet the activities clearly will still need funding so if you would like to make a donation, go to the Open Gardens Just Giving page.
